Mental illness is surrounded by damaging myths, harmful stigmas and erroneous stereotypes. As such, a group of people with mental illness launched an innovative citizen journalism project with the support of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. The group created a series of poignant and educational videos aiming to show the human face of mental illness and the realities of recovery. These videos have been shown during dozens of organized screenings to students, health care providers and the general public to raise awareness and reduce stigma. This video chronicles the entire process, showing how people with mental illness can act as empowered community educators in the fight against stigma.
